Pakistani F-16 “Engaged” One Of The MH-47G Chinooks Three Times During Bin Laden Raid

A new interview with an elite veteran U.S. Army aviator has disclosed that a Pakistani F-16 “engaged” one of the MH-47G Chinook helicopters three times during the Bin Laden raid. The now-retired Chief Warrant Officer also says that the Obama Administration made at least two attempts were made to capture Iranian General Qasem Soleimani.

Directional infrared countermeasure (DIRCM) systems, which use lasers to blind and confuse the seeker on infrared-homing missiles, are becoming an increasingly ubiquitous feature on U.S. military helicopters and other aircraft. Now a picture has emerged that is one of the first to show an MH-47G Chinook from the U.S. Army’s elite 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, also known as the Night Stalkers, with such a defensive suite, known as the AN/AAQ-24.

The War Zone has written extensively about how the aviators of the U.S. Army’s elite 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment are experts in flying through especially challenging environments, including hazard-filled urban areas, and at very low levels in the dark, in order to insert special operators where ever they might need to go. A recent official video showing one of the unit’s AH-6 Little Birds using a rope ladder to extract an individual from the water reminds us that they’re just as capable of getting American personnel out at the end of a mission or in an emergency.

These Secret Helicopters Were Flown By A Shadowy Unit During The Battle of Mogadishu

In August 1993, a joint U.S. special operations force, known as Task Force Ranger, with personnel from elite units across the services, deployed to Somalia. Its principal objective was to hunt down and capture warlord Mohammed Farah Aidid and other senior militants responsible for orchestrating attacks on U.S. and U.N. personnel in the country. There is also significant evidence that this task force received support from two Little Birds from one of the U.S. military’s most top-secret aviation units, the Flight Concepts Division.
