About

Ian is the Head of Audience Development at TWZ. He executes our full-spectrum social media strategy, is the master of ceremonies for the incredible comments section, and brings his interpretive graphics skills to our editorial team as an OSINT analyst and researcher. Ian joined TWZ in early 2026 and maintains our weekly carrier tracker and newsletter.

Experience

Before joining TWZ, Ian was the creator of IEJ Media, a national security-focused media brand, where his work appeared in various publications including The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, Fox News, Newsweek, Task and Purpose, Taiwan News, The Dispatch, Al Jazeera, gCaptain, The Manila Times, and more. Known for his graphical representations of complex things, Ian’s content received over 200 million views since he started posting in 2022. Prior to entering the defense media space, he was an investment banker at Goldman Sachs where he worked with Technology, Media, and Telecom clients, such as SpaceX and Sabre, and Healthcare clients, like Dana Farber and Boston Children’s Hospital.

Education

Ian received a bachelor’s degree from the University at Albany in 2012 with a double major in Honors Financial Analysis and Accounting. He was awarded the most outstanding senior graduate in finance and oversaw an investment group that managed the school’s endowment fund.

Highlights

  • Ian has spent almost as much time out of the country as in the country over the past decade, traveling and working remotely from 40+ countries. He is currently based in the Hudson Valley area of upstate New York.
  • His graphics have been featured in U.S. military briefings, referenced by members of Congress, and cited by think tanks and research institutions.
  • Built and maintains a proprietary OSINT database tracking military activity around the world, including the whereabouts of the U.S. Navy and Chinese PLA Navy fleets, air and naval activity in the Western Pacific, campaigns and operations across the Middle East, and more.
  • Launched a podcast in 2023 focused on geopolitical and military developments in the Indo-Pacific.
